Notes for the Week:
DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME:  A reminder that Daylight Savings Time ended in the United States over the weekend.  Be sure to double check your clock relative to U.S. Central Time to set your schedule for the week.

EXAMS: This week, students have exams in Great Books, History, and TPT classes.  ES 3 also has an exam.
These courses operate on a three exam schedule throughout the year (Units 10, 20, and 30).  Most other courses have a four exam schedule (midterm and final exams each semester), so this schedule difference allows us to spread the exams more evenly throughout the year.
Parents - As always, help your students to thoughtfully prioritize exams over other work, to study well, and to manage their time carefully.  Chase them into Tutor Times early for help in preparation.

GB SPECIAL SCHEDULE: Note that our Great Books 1 - 5 instructors (Messrs. Keatley, Krueger, and Walsh) will likely have altered tutor time schedules this week, due to oral exams.  There is no full class meeting -- the time is used for the oral exams.  See the schedule for orals posted in Unit 10, and pay attention to messaging for further information about tutor times.

VETERANS DAY: As we continue to pray for the dead, include in your prayers all military personnel this Friday.  We celebrate Veterans Day on Martinmas (Feast of St. Martin of Tours).  The image above is the cover of one of several military missals that were available for troops in the U.S. during the World Wars.

LEAGUE: At long last, League activity will be starting up this week.  The provosts and I are very excited to reveal the next chapter . . .

ON PRAYERS for the DEAD:
"At the end of life, death deprives us of all that is earthly, but not of that Grace and that sacramental "character" by virtue of which we are indissolubly associated with Our Lord and Saviour's Paschal Mystery. Emptied of all but clothed in Christ:  thus do the baptized cross the threshold of death and are presented to the just and merciful God.
In order that the white garment received in Baptism may be purified of every speck and every stain, the Community of believers offers the Eucharistic Sacrifice and other prayers of suffrage for those whom death has called to pass from time to eternity.
Praying for the dead is a noble practice that implies belief in the resurrection of the dead, in accordance with what has been revealed to us by Sacred Scripture and, in a complete way, by the Gospel."
Homily, Mass on Nov. 4, 2006
