Icon of Saint Matthew with his emblem, the winged messenger with trumpet.
Saint Matthew (Feast is Thursday) in the Lindisfarne Gospels (ca. 700)

TIP of the MORNING:  Short, intense periods of work, with break times between, are more effective than long, slow periods.  Work hard, then get up and walk around outside after each 50 minute session of work.

COMPOSITION DEADLINES:  Just like last week, several of our COMP classes have a final draft due this week.  Prioritize! - COMPS DON'T ALLOW LATE WORK!

POEM of the WEEK:  "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes.  Recited by Evelyn Sherman.
Student and instructor contributions for "Poem of the Week" are welcome.  Send a message to Mr. Rolling with "Poem of the Week," and the title and author of the poem you would like to recite.

EMBER DAYS: "Fasting days and Emberings be; Lent, Whitsun, Holyrood, and Lucie."  Fall Ember Days are this week, following the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on September 14.

WISDOM of the SAINTS: " Withdraw often into the depths of your being, and there with living faith rest on the breast of God, like a child, in the sacred silence of faith and holy love."  Saint Paul of the Cross
