Time For a Check Up

This week we pause our forward progress to review the student work and then to assess how we can improve.  Here are the notes for the week.
MONDAY is LABOR DAY ~ The school is closed.  No class meetings or tutor times today.  Students are welcome to work on their agendas for the week.

WHAT TO DO IN R & A WEEK
WE DO HAVE CLASS! ~ All regular classes and tutor times meet Tuesday through Friday and attendance is required.
STUDENTS
> This week your FIRST job is to go back over everything you completed in units 1 and 2.
- The agenda in each of your classes will give you guidance this week.
- Check each of your UNIT 1 and 2 agendas to see what you did and did not get done.
- Read all the feedback available on your homework.
- Retake quizzes until they are all 100%
- Talk to your teacher about any missed points.
- And finally, make sure you finish the week with a clear idea of what you need to do to succeed the rest of the year.
> Your SECOND job is to use any extra time you have to work ahead.  That is, you should look at UNITS 3, 4, and 5 and figure out which things it would work well to do early and do those.
- Composition assignments are good candidates for working ahead.
PARENTS
- At the end of this week, on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, do a full "Check Up" with each of your students, following the guidance in the handbook.
- Have the student login and together, go through each class grade book.  All of the work for UNITS 1 & 2 should be complete.
- Talk about what is going well and what is going poorly.
- Consider how you can alter the schedules and paradigms in the home to make things work better.
- As with the students, make sure you come out of this week with a clear idea of what you need to do to help your student succeed.

CHESS WORKSHOPS ARE BACK! ~ A wonderful opportunity to learn or get better at the game of chess.  Workshops are enrolling now to begin class next week.  Each class is a six-week program, meeting 1 hour each week, that incorporates strategy concepts, games, exercises, and weekly homework, as well as free opportunities for tournaments.
These workshops with Mr. Bloom were a hit last year and we are very pleased to bring them back.
Two times are available:
