As we prepare for the new academic year at Oxrose Academy, I wish to extend my sincerest welcome to each of you, returning and new. This year, our Headmaster, Mr. Kenneth Rolling, will be on sabbatical, and I am pleased to fill in for him during the year. We have many new teachers on staff, and some of our familiar faces you will find in new roles. Please welcome Mr. Matthew Walsh as our new Dean of Humanities, Mrs. Lorryn Sterkenburg as our new Dean of Math and Sciences, and Mr. Zachary Krueger as our new Dean of Discipline. They are well-prepared for their positions, and I am confident they will perform excellently. I look forward to getting to know each of you better throughout the school year. Thank you for your support and your trust as we seek to educate you with joy like swords, ever to the heights. Most Sincerely, Alecia Rolling Headmistress, Oxrose Academy
“The map of schools that are in the network of the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education continues to be ever more populated, but we still have large areas in the United States with no schools deeply dedicated to the Catholic tradition. (See here for a commentary on Catholic schools that are not so dedicated to the tradition.) For those parents in isolated places, however, there is an option.
The Oxrose Academy is an online institution that opened in 2011. It was started under the name Rolling Acres School; the name change took place in 2021. Oxrose now runs from preschool to twelfth grade. The curriculum is “classical, liberal arts, great books, and Thomistic,” the website says. All teachers are Catholics “in good standing,” and everyone submits to “the teaching of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church,” though the school remains independent of any ecclesial authority.
Founders Kenneth and Alecia Rolling started the school as a place for philosophically-minded kids to study metaphysics, natural law, and revealed theology. By its second year, Oxrose served 20 students, most of them drawn from the homeschool world. Today, Oxrose has a full curriculum of humanities (“Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, and Aquinas are the tutors”), sciences, theology, and the arts, and it serves 160 students, most of the growth happening in the last three years.”
Oxrose Academy is pleased to announce that 4 students received the CLT10 awards for the 2023-2024 academic year in National, Distinguished, and Regional Award for the CLT10. Miss Trujillo, a current junior at Oxrose Academy, received all three awards, including the National Award for CLT10 performance. We are proud of all our Oxrose students this year!
Each year, Classic Learning Test recognizes top performers on the CLT10, a college preparatory exam and alternative to the PSAT. Distinguished Scholars are the freshmen or sophomores who earned the top score at their respective school, Regional Scholars are the freshmen or sophomores who landed in the top 5% of their respective region, and National Award recipients are the top 50 high school sophomores across the United States.
National Award recipients are awarded a $2,500 scholarship to help cover the cost of tuition and room and board at any CLT Partner College. Additionally, several CLT Partner Colleges offer their own unique scholarships for National Award recipients, including the University of Tulsa Honors College, Grove City College, and Christendom College. View CLT’s Scholarships page to learn more.
With thousands taking the CLT10 each year, we are so proud of Miss Trujillo’s and all of our students’ accomplishments.

Latin 1 Students reciting declension endings on Monday Mustachio!
Each year Oxrose students participate in the Spirit Week activities, which are meant to celebrate the school’s patron saint day as well as provide some much needed levity after many weeks of rigorous school work. Just the break everyone needs to rejuvenate for more weeks before spring break.
Kingfisher sits in the lead at the beginning of the Oxrose Spirit Week! Once the tallies have been completed for the Spirit Week battles, the house leader will be updated. Each year the three Oxrose houses of Kingfisher, Chanticleer, and Heronshaw compete in activities for the house cup. Activities this year in 2024-2025 have included: All Saints’ Costume Contest, Virtue Challenges in our League System, and House battles during Spirit Week. This year is a tight race!
